MASLAR - Francis J. of Laurel View Village passed away November 6, 2016.  Born January 9, 1929 in Reading, Pa, son of Frank and Mary Maslar (Kopcik).  His father came to America from Czechoslovakia and first worked for Berwind Coal Company in Windber, PA.   Frank was proud to be an American and he treasured his Slovak heritage.  He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Margaret Cipar and brother John Maslar.  Survived by wife Emily (Austrevich), children Francis (Cheri) Maslar of Grosse Isle, Michigan; Monica (Michael) Garver of Johnstown, and six grandchildren: Amanda- wife of Pat Brondyke, Frank Jr. and Julia - Michigan; and Michael, Megan, and Molly Garver of Johnstown, sister Ann Maslar and sister-in-law Chris Maslar.  He was also a beloved uncle, he enjoyed spending time with family. Frank graduated from Reading Catholic High School and Kutztown State University.  He also received his Master’s Degree from Temple University.  He taught at Boyertown High School.  He was a very proud army veteran of the Korean War. Before moving to Davidsville, Frank and Emily lived in Lansdale, PA (1965-2007), where they raised their family and built many lasting relationships.  Frank retired as a purchasing Manager from Moore Products in Springhouse, Pa.  Upon retirement, he became a licensed D/J and had his own show for three years where he played big band music.  He was a lifelong member of the Slovak Catholic Sokol, a Knight of Columbus, and was a member of the Czechoslovak Genealogical Society.    Frank enjoyed golf, polka dancing, Phillies baseball and Eagles football.  Frank played basketball in high school, and was a fan of Big 5 college basketball in Philadelphia, attending many games at the Palestra.  Frank was a member of St. Andrew Roman Catholic Church.  He always had a smile and kind word for everyone.  Frank loved life and enjoyed spending time with friends.  During retirement, Frank and Emily traveled the US and took many trips abroad. Friends will be received from 4 to 8 P.M. on Thursday November 10, 2016 at the George E. Mason Funeral Home, Inc. Davidsville.  Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday November 11, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Andrew Catholic Church.  The Reverend Father Angelo Patti will be the celebrant.  Interment, Grandview Cemetery with full military rites immediately following the funeral Mass.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either St. Andrew Roman Catholic Church or to the Caring Fund at Laurel View Village.  To leave condolences for the family please visit www.georgemasonfunerralhome.com
