Shank: Ruth Catherine (Eash), 99, of Davidsville, PA was received by our Lord Jesus on Wednesday, April 4, 2018, at Laurel View Village. Born September 22, 1918, the daughter of the late Curtis and Bessie (Pile) Eash. Wife of 54 years to the late Walter G. Shank. Mother of one stillborn daughter and four sons; Walter G. Shank Jr., married to Susan (Malarich) Shank; William E. Shank, married to Doris (Rohrer) Shank; Jim P. married to Jenny (Gooden) Shank; and Robert J. married to Bonnie (Cornelius) Shank. 12 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Ruth was the sister of the late Ralph Eash of Westmont. Ruth graduated at age 16 from Johnstown High School in year 1934 and earned her teaching certificate from California State Teachers College. She began her teaching career at age 18 in Grazier, PA, part of Conemaugh Township School District and retired after 28 years, in 1977. She was employed at the Department of Public Welfare. Ruth was a faithful member of St. David’s Lutheran Church and had a close relationship with God. In addition, she was a lifelong member of Conemaugh Township Historical Society. Ruth had the opportunity to act as an extra in the movie, Slapshot filmed in Johnstown, PA in the year 1977. With the money she earned, Ruth purchased material and sewed an outfit for herself, which she referred to as he “Paul Newman” suit. She enjoyed traveling throughout the US and Europe, loved searching for good bargains at local auctions, managing various rental properties, and spending time with her family especially her grandchildren. Her varied interests included card club, hosting neighborhood picnics and parties, and Friday night bowling. Ruth treasured her time spent with her Pile cousins. Family receiving friends from 6-8 P.M. Friday at the George E. Mason Funeral Home, Inc. Davidsville and from 10 A.M. until time of service at 11 A.M. Saturday at St. David’s Lutheran Church in Davidsville. Pastors Larry Hoover and Nelson Illgenfritz officiating. Interment Blough Mennonite Cemetery.
