Dorothy was a graduate of Conemaugh Township Area High School (Davidsville) in 1964.  She received her LPN Degree from Chambersburg School of Nursing in 1966.  Upon receiving her nursing degree, she worked in various areas of the heathcare field ranging from hospitals, Nursing facilities, and private practice.

Dorothy was very talented.  Throughout her life she would go from being a flute player to sewing to Stained Glass.  Listed are just some of the hobbies she had mastered during her life: Sewing, Ceramics, stamped cross stitch, decorating cakes, and stained glass

Gardening was another beloved hobby.  She would spend hours in both the vegetable garden and flower beds pulling weeds, deadheading her flowers or just harvesting the bounty that the garden produced.  Two of her specialties from the garden were her canned red beets and her homemade canned sauerkraut.

Dorothy often expressed and was amazed that her children were never embarrassed to have her around and involved, nor did it seem that their friends, as often times, she would never know which extra teenager would be at her house on any given Saturday morning.  She was actively involved as a Band Chaperone.  Making those long days in the fall, marked by Friday Night Football game to all day Saturday competition without complaint.  She became a Girl Schout leader when her daughter's troop could not find a troop leader.  If asked to be a chaperone for church trips she would never hesitate.

After her family, she spent more volunteering hours at First Lutheran Church.  Some of the groups she was involved with were: Alter Guild (the Easter Season, mind you), Tuesday Noon Luncheon, The Lutheran Home Boutique and any other place that needed help.

Party planning and feeding people was another favorite thing she liked to do. When a party was planned at the Anderson's you knew who put in all the work! It was Dorothy!  People loved her potato salad, pumpkin rolls, and her Fudge.  Those were the most requested items people would ask her to make for them.

Dorothy was usually the backbone and support of her family.  When Calvin was in an organization, so was Dorothy just behind the scenes.  Rotary International Youth Exchange was one such organization.  There are many adults of all nationalities that still think of her as Mom.  Her son and daughter are proud to have called her their Mom, never once did she ever say she did not have time for them.

Dorothy was an avid sports fan of hockey, football, and baseball.  In her youth and then as a parent, she was a faithful and devoted local hockey fan.  She attended all the Johnstown Jets and Chiefs that she could fit in her busy schedule, she bled black and gold of the Steelers, Penguins, and Pirates.  She proudly supported her son at all his little league games.

Last but not lease, Dorothy loved to travel.  Dorothy and Calvin would spend long Sunday drives in their 1955 Ford F-100.  It was one of her favorite places to be with Calvin.  Some of places those travels took her was to Europe where she experienced London, Germany, Sweden, Denmark, Austria.  It took her to Argentina where she experienced a wedding of one of their exchange students.  Her travels took her to many locations across the US which included a trip on Route 66, where she was able to end that trip by visiting yet another exchange student.

Dorothy's loving spirit will be tremendously missed by all who had the pleasure to know her.  Visitation will be at George E. Mason Funeral Home, Inc. Davidsville on August 29 from 6 to 8 P.M.  There will also be a visitation at 9:30 A.M. until time of services at 10:30 A.M.
