Evelyn Rohde Obituary

Evelyn “Jean “–- 92, Hollsopple born October 11, 1927, went to her heavenly home on July 30, 2020 joining the love of her life Robert (Bob) and her eldest son Stephen.  She was also welcomed home by her parents Lewis E. and Emma J. (Thomas) Miller.  Also greeting her at heaven’s gate were brother Lewis, Jr.  (Mary), sister Dorothy and brother Edgar (Anna).  Jean’s death completed the family circle as well as reuniting her with her lifelong friends and companions, Dean and Vivian (Bib) Thomas.  Jean leaves behind her loving and devoted family, children, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren; deceased son Stephen’s family , Michael and friend Suzanne Johnson,  Kirk and Lisa all of Hollsopple, Richard and Darlene Rohde (Hollsopple)  and family Tim and Ellen Doyle (Jerome), Chad and Kellie Doyle (North Carolina), and Brandy Berkebile (Royersford, PA)  and great grandchildren, Kylee and Brady, Cooper and Corban, Alayna and Aleah Berkebile ; George and Lynn (Arizona) and family Andrew and Emily, Aaron and great-granddaughter Ella; Sandy, Lower Yoder.  Jean worked for 25 years as a cook and cafeteria manager at the Conemaugh Township School District.  When not working at the school she used her cooking talents serving her church, Bethel U.M. Church in Hollsopple, preparing funeral dinners and making nutrolls.  Jean lived a selfless and full life devoting many years to working along side her husband and son Richard on mission trips, which included Haiti, Granada, Florida, Red Bird Kentucky and the Bahamas.  Her ministry also included spending time visiting “the old people” as recently as this past January.  She delivered Sunday School books and devotionals with her smiling face.  Hard work was not uncommon for Jean.  She worked on the family farm for many years growing vegetables and especially working in her strawberry patches.  Even into her 90’s one could find Jean working out in her “garden”.   Caring for her family gave her the greatest pleasure.  Whether cooking holiday meals or making Shephard’s Pie at the family cottage at Yough Lake her invitation was always “I’m cooking….”   As recent as this past New Year’s Day the family gathered at her house for her awesome cooking.  Jean also enjoyed spending time with her family in Arizona several times a year.  She most recently spent a month in February and March sending off her grandson to the U.S. Army and celebrating her great-granddaughter’s second birthday.  Raising three boys that were athletes created a love in Jean for watching sports.  She enjoyed watching not only high school sports but also looked forward to attending Pirate games each year.  Along with her family, Jean leaves behind a church family in which she was truly devoted.  Whenever anyone asked Jean how she was she would always answer “I’m fine!”  So now dear “Jean”, “Mom”, “Grandma”, “G”, “Grammy Jean” you truly are just fine in the arms of Jesus and your loving heavenly family are finally without leg pain and are whole once again.  Friends will be received Saturday from 2 PM until the time of service at 4:00 PM, at Bethel U.M Church, Hollsopple, Pastor David Bowman officiating.  Due to current health concerns please maintain social distancing and masks are recommended.  Private interment at Richland Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bethel U.M.
