Spangler: George W. 91 of Windber, formerly of Davidsville, died July 21, 2020 at home. Born January 12, 1929 at the Quemahoning Reservoir, Somerset County the son of Morris F. and Thelma (Gilbert) Spangler. Preceded in death by parents, sisters Evelyn Marie Thomas Sumner and Georgianna B. Lape, and brothers Robert R. and Jack M. Spangler. He was the last surviving member of his family. Survived by special friends Eileen Holsopple and family, Karen and Mark Brewer, and Linda. George was a lifelong active member of Bethel United Methodist Church, Hollsopple. He was a graduate of Conemaugh Township High School and the University of Pittsburgh both Johnstown and Pittsburgh. George served his country with the 40th Infantry Division during the Korean Conflict in the United States, Japan, and Korea. He was employed by the Jones and Laughlin Steel Company in Pittsburgh and the Bethlehem Steel Company in Johnstown. He volunteered for over 30 years at the Conemaugh Township Area Historical Society, St. Francis Caring and Sharing Food Pantry, and Meals on Wheels Program. He loved to travel the United States, Canada, Europe, and the Caribbean in pursuit of hobbies of sightseeing, skiing, and bicycling. At George’s request no viewing or services.
