Butler: Richard M. (Dick), 90 passed away June 25, 2020 at Laurel View Village. Born January 16, 1930 in Johnstown the son of John C. and Myrtle I. Butler. Preceded in death by parents and brother Thoburn C. Butler. Survived by loving wife, Dorothy, with whom he would have been married to for 65 years on July 30th, children Linda J. Blough (wife of Tim Blough, Davidsville), Ronald J. Butler (Johnstown), and John M. Butler (Johnstown). Also survived by grandchildren, Eric W. Straub (Carrie, of Greensboro, NC), Holly M. Shaffer (Josh, of Davidsville) and Nathan E. Pahel (Annie, of Hollsopple) and great-grandchildren Taylor and Samuel Shaffer, Ty and Cali Straub, and Jayda and Piper Pahel. Member of Moxham Lutheran Church. Dick was a graduate of Johnstown High School and served in the Army National Guard in Germany as a Staff Sergeant and Tank Commander. He was employed by Acme Market since the age of 14 and held various managerial positions in Acme stores around the area. He opened Market Basket, Inc. in Richland Township in 1971 (the little store) located where the Alibi is today. He moved to the existing location in 1981 and expanded the building twice. His passion and dedication to the business resulted in the Market Basket being successful and winning “Simply the Best Grocery Store” every year since 2001. He enjoyed talking to the customers. He was loved by his employees and customers alike and he will be missed and remembered by many. Since his retirement in 2013 the Market Basket legacy is carried on by his son John Butler and granddaughter Holly Shaffer. The family would like to thank the entire staff at Laurel View Village and most recently LVV Health Care for their loving and compassionate care over the last few months. Private service to be held by the family at the George E. Mason Funeral Home, Inc. Davidsville. Interment Richland Cemetery.
