Garland: Shirley Ann died December 9, 2021, at the age of 89. Hers was a life filled with Love, Laughter, Art, and Music. Shirley was born January 20, 1932, in Johnstown the only child of Henry and Margaret (Alwine) Wonders. Preceded in death by parents and grandson Jonathan Dillon. She graduated from Conemaugh Township High School in 1949. In 1950 she married her high school sweetheart Verle Garland. The had 3 children: Susan (Chuck) Dillon, Curtis Garland, and Eloise (Glenn) Mullins. Four grandchildren Alaina (Mark) Johnson, Alison (Noah) Diehl, Lesli (Scott) Pettingell, Amanda Dillon, and 8 great grandchildren. Christmas was a special time with the house overflowing with family, food, and fun. Shirley worked in the cafeteria at CTHS, starting out as a dishwasher and finishing her career as manager. Shirley and Verle loved camping and were part of a group that regularly took trips with their trailers to locations both locally and to far destinations as Branson, MO. Shirley and Verle were life members of Benscreek Lutheran Church where they were also married August 20, 1950. Her passing ends a union of 71 years. Shirley will be buried at Thomas Mennonite Cemetery in a private family gathering. Arrangements by the George E. Mason Funeral Home, Inc. Davidsville.
