Thomas J. Johns

Thomas J. Johns, 95, Johnstown died July 22, 2018 at Arbutus Park Manor. Born Oct. 24, 1922 in Morrellville, son of Thomas Sr. and Annie (Strike) Johns. Preceded in death by parents, wife the former Catherine Riley, and brothers: Ronald and Joseph Johns. Survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He is the last living member of his family. He is a 1941 graduate of Windber High School and a graduate of Cleveland Electronic School of Radio, Television, Broadcasting, and Announcing. Retired from RCA with 33 years of service. Thomas is a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, serving as a member of the five man 30 caliber machine gun squad with the 8th Infantry Division. He was on the front at Falken Stein Germany near the Czech border when the war ended in May of 1945. Thomas received the Combat Infantry Badge, 3 Battle Ribbons, and the Good Conduct and Sharp Shooter medals. Member of St. Johns United Church of Christ, Johnstown where he served as an Elder, a Deacon, president of the consistory several times, Sunday School Superintendent, and the men’s fellowship. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Arbutus Park Manor in the Cross Roads Unit. Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service at 1 p.m. Thursday at George E. Mason Funeral Home, Inc. Pastor John D. Hollis officiating. Interment Custer Cemetery.
