Wanda Kimmel Obituary

Wanda Allayne (Holsopple) Kimmel, formerly of the Ridge, died September 20, 2019 at Windber Hospice, surrounded by her loving family. Born June 1, 1937, she was a 1955 graduate of Conemaugh Township High School and a 1959 graduate of the Johnstown Technical School of Practical Nursing.  Preceded in death by parents, John S. & Ethel May Holsopple, brother Barry L. Holsopple, and son Michael E. Garwood, as well as Wilmer A. (Bill) Kimmel and Charles T. Van.  Survived by brother Gary W. Holsopple & wife Mary Lou, children Phyllis (Darr) wife of Richard Harmon, Jeffrey Darr and wife Susan (Schrock), Joe Kimmel and wife Tara (Bratton).  Also grandchildren Craig, Daniel, Taya, Natalie and Kyra, as well as great-grandchildren Avery, Connor, Ryker and Silas. Wanda earned her LPN certification in 1959 and used her God-given talents caring for countless members of our community.  She began her career at the Windber Brethren Home, moving on to the Windber Hospital, wings 2 & 3, and continuing to care for individuals and families in numerous care facilities and home nursing.  Wanda volunteered with Windber Hospice for over forty years.  It was there that she received her final days of care from a place that she served and loved so much.  Wanda was an avid fan of yard sales and a thrifty shopper, with most of her found treasures going to her family and dear friends.  She was a true believer in angels and gave away much of her treasured angel collection to others who needed them the most. She was a member of St. Thomas Lutheran Church and also attended Bethel United Methodist Church in Hollsopple, as well as Calvary United Methodist Church in Windber.  Friends will be received on Tuesday, September 24, 2019 at the George E. Mason Funeral Home in Davidsville from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.  A final viewing will be held at 10:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at St. Thomas Lutheran Church, Ridge Road, Hooversville. Wanda would have loved any and all donations in her memory made to Windber Hospice.
