ACKMAN: William R., 82 of Davidsville, passed peaceably at home to be with the Lord on June 23, 2023. Born May 30, 1941, in McKeesport, PA, son of Richard and Mary E. (Large) Ackman. Preceded in Death by parents and first wife Donna J. (Hopp) Ackman. Survived by wife Maryann (Grisnik) Ackman and three children, Lorrie J. (David) Callihan, William R., Jr (Susan) Ackman and Brian E. (Erin) Ackman. Also survived by grandchildren Mindy (Rob) Zeigler, Lindsey (Derrick) Ensley, Stephanie (Cody) Buterbaugh, Jeff (Angela) Callihan, Maddie Ackman and Emily Ackman, and great grandchildren Jacob & Julia Zeigler, Owen & Myra Ensley, Kayleigh and Claire Buterbaugh and William Callihan. He was the brother of Jim (Jean) Ackman, Shirley (Gil) Merrill and Terry (Marlene) Ackman. Bill is also survived by his brother-in-law, Roger E. Hopp and many nieces and nephews. He was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was a 1959 graduate of Clairton High School and a 1963 graduate of the California State College, where he played football. He taught for Johnstown IU8 and served as a principal in the Greater Johnstown School District from 1963 to 1980. In 1980 he became an elementary principal for the Conemaugh Township Area School District, retiring in 1998. However, his love for kids and his community kept him substitute teaching until 2023. He loved traveling all 50 states but his favorite “State” was St. Maarten. He loved people, but most of all, he loved his family. A special thanks to Interim Hospice, especially Jenna, Candy, and Amy who provided such loving care to the end. Family will receive friends from 6-8 Sunday, June 25 and 2-4 and 6-8 Monday, June 26 at the George E. Mason Funeral Home in Davidsville, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 AM at St. Andrew Church. Committal will be at Richland Mausoleum at a later date.
