Robert Y. (Bob) Saylor, 92 of Davidsville, died peacefully Sunday, July 23, 2017.  Born March 14, 1925, at his homestead farm in Woodstown, to William and Lydia (Yoder) Saylor.   Bob was one of eleven children.  He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters Beatrice (Lester Blough), Beulah (Forrest Johns), Violet (Lee Wible), brothers James (Mary Margaret Davis), William (Jean Coyle), and John (Betty Mock).  His loving wife of 62 years, Audrey (Loughner) died two weeks prior on July 10, 2017. Further, Bob is survived by children Barry and wife Tammy, Susan and husband Craig, both of Davidsville, and Bill and wife Kay of South Park, PA. He is also survived by grandchildren  Alicia Saylor-Branham, Laura Saylor-Renwick, Alex Stahl, and Emily, Joseph, Anna, and Molly Saylor.  Mabel, Brady, and Violet Branham and Everett Renwick are Bob’s great-grandchildren.  Bob is also survived by the following siblings:  Betty (Richard Layton), and Frank (Leona Mack) both of Davidsville, Nancy (Jake Shaffer) of Georgia, and Roberta (Bob Bowman) of Nokesville, Virginia, and sister-in-law’s Betty (John Saylor) and Jean (William Saylor).  Further, his brother-in-law, Robert  Loughner and  wife Rose of Leland, North Carolina, survive Bob.  A large number of loving nieces and nephews survive Bob as well. First and foremost, Bob loved and was devoted to his immediate and extended family. He guided his children with a strong hand and gentle spirit.  He instilled in each of them a strong character and work ethic.  He was devoted to his wife as they built a home and life, working and laughing together for 62 years. Bob was a simple man, but a man of great faith.  He regularly sang and whistled old traditional hymns as he went through his day. When asked how he was doing, Bob would always respond in Pennsylvania Dutch saying “Halp Chite” (Half-right).  He was also a man of great humor and was always ready with a joke.  He saw the best in everyone.  Bob loved to work and was never idle.  Growing up on a farm, Bob was a highly capable individual and a jack-of-all-trades. He was generous beyond measure, and due to his many talents was often called upon to build, install, fix, or in some way help others.   Bob volunteered for service into the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific during WWII.  He ran amphibious vessels in preparation for the invasion of Japan, and then upon Japan’s surrender, his mission changed to cruising for mines in the Bay of Japan.  After the war, Bob worked at U.S. Steel and then Bethlehem Steel, holding the position of foreman in the Coke Plant. He was respected for his knowledge, work ethic, and ability to keep old equipment operating. Upon retiring in 1982, Bob worked with his good friend Merle Mishler in the auction business. Bob loved interacting with his children and their friends.  He enjoyed throwing “long bomb” footballs and playing backyard baseball with whatever kids were around.  He was an avid hunter and anxiously looked forward to deer camp in Potter County, and hunting pheasant with his devoted dog, Lady.  He was a mentor to the neighborhood kids, but held a special bond with his “third son” John Weismiller.  Bob never gave up his farm roots.  His passion was planting potatoes and sharing his bounty with family and friends. He loved restoring old Allis-Chalmers farm tractors.  Bob leaves a wonderful legacy and a positive impact on those blessed to know him. His life is a testament of faith, family, integrity, character, and work ethic.  He will be sorely missed and forever cherished by his family.  He truly has been a “good and faithful servant” and now dwells among the angels and his Heavenly Father. Family will receive friends Wednesday from 2-8 p.m. at the George E. Mason Funeral Home, Inc. Davidsville, and from 10 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11 a.m. at Kaufman Mennonite Church, Davidsville.  Pastor Wes Yoder officiating.  Internment Maple Springs Church of the Brethren cemetery. Bob’s family wishes to thank Dr. Richard Wozniak, Conemaugh Hospice, and the staff of Richland Woods for the extraordinary care, love and support given to Bob and his family.  They are all amazing people and our family will remain forever grateful.
